Dear Mr. Flaherty;
In Steven Chase’s article in the Globe and Mail, it seems that you are finally willing to undo one of your mistakes. This I assume is due to the excessive pressure being applied by big business.
Unfortunately small individual and senior investors can not apply the same political pressure as big business but you can be assured that they will use whatever means available to have this trust tax changed.
Perhaps now that it is publicly acknowledged that you can be wrong and can be influenced, egos can be discarded and common sense can prevail.
Will you now correct you’re (+ $30 billion) income trust tax mistake?
That has:
- devastated hundreds of thousands of Canadian investors (Many who were retired or preparing for their retirement)
- Set up many Canadian income trusts to be taken over by foreign entities.
- Damaged Canada’s international reputation as a safe place to invest.
There is still time to mitigate these losses to Canadians and the Conservative Party by revising this income trust tax fiasco.
